The DZ is famous for beeing a "shopping center" and
it was built and opend in the 1970's
It has about 119.000 m², and ~260 shops.
Besides shops the DZ has also an entertainment part
where you find cinema and a lot of various restaurants and bars.

Currently there's quiet a lot of christmas shopping going on there.

Emperor Karl VI. vowed to build a church for his name patron
Karl Borromäus who's also the black death saint ("Pestheiliger")
The laying of the foundation stone was in 1716, after an architect competition
which had been won by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.
